What is required to become a piano teacher

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Everything About Teaching and Learning the Piano : One Thread

I am currently a piano student of 9 years. I am in high school and am thinking about pursuing a career in music teaching. Unfortuanetly, I do not know many things about piano teaching (salary, schooling, skills, working conditions etc.) and I was wondering if a piano teacher could post some information for me. Thanks a lot!

You'll find a lot of information here:

I also highly recommend a book called The Well Tempered Keyboard Teacher. It's expensive but full of useful information and ideas to get you thinking.

Your piano teacher should be a good resource, as well. Perhaps you could "shadow" him or her, or practise-teach a few lessons under supervision to see if you like it.
