I have just come back from my doctor who is sending me to a surgeon. Does being diagonesed with Bakers Cyst always mean surgery? I didn't even have the presence of mind to ask him what it was or what causes it, as I have not knowingly done any damage to it.

I am in the same shape. My doctor told me I have torn ligaments in my knee and also have a baker's cyst. Idon't know anything about it either. Don't undergo any surgery until you have researched the topic.

A Baker's Cyst occurs when there is swelling in your knee and the fluid from the swelling sort of gathers in the sac at the back of the knee. From what I understand surgery for it is rather pointless since they will almost always return. They can drain them, but again, they will almost always return.
