My brother-in-law was brought to the US when he was 2 years old. The whole family came here legally with Permanent Resident Status. In 1996, he was convicted of Assualt with a Firearm. He served 2 years in prison and was parolled. He was unable to keep a job for more than 6 months, which was one of his requirements during his parol. He was deported to a country where he didn't even speak the language and had no family or friends. It has been 2 years and he now has his own business there. He is a reputable part of his community.

Can he EVER come back even just to visit? I heard that he might be able to after 20 years. Is that correct? It sure would give him the opportunity to see his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, etc. I thought he might be able to come back after proving that he has reconstructed his life and no longer poses a threat to society.

PLEASE HELP...I have been searching the laws and have found no conclusive evidence.
