Engine Building

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

Hi im thinking of build a small engine probably around 5-8 hp. I am planing on using thinck pipes for a cylender and very very think sheet metal for a crank case. I will most likely use a stock carb of an old briggs engine. I want to make it a 2-stroke engine. PLease post me suggestions, tips, ect.

Would you just use a piston, connecting rod, flywheel, ect. that you will purchase, if so than just buy an engine. If you want to do something cool try to convert a 4-stroke to run on ethyl alcohol or propane or some thing challenging like that. You can buy alcohol carbs as well as new cams to open the valves more and heads w/ higher clearence for briggs engines on JEGs.com in the junior dragster section. I dont know if thats what you would be interested in, but this stuff can get pretty fun, and you can get cheap stuff on ebay and fix it up.
