I have a 2002 F4 Diamante. I started it to let it warm up (its winter here). I heard a loud ticking noise later finding out there is a huge crack in my exhaust below the engine where the colector splits back to 2 pipes just before the bend. There is a cross piece that holds the pipes together and the weld on that has cracked. Has anyone els had the same problem? I think it started just before I parked it for winter because I remember hearing something.

I can't say that I have as it is pretty unusual. The welds there are pretty solid. It can easily be repaired by an decent welder. Just make sure that they use stainless steel to weld it to minumize corrosion.

the exact same weld failed on my Silver'02 as well. Sounded like a tractor...Cagiva did provide a replacement under warrenty (though the availablity of the parts did lead to some negoitiation :). I occured the summer of '02, bought the bike end of December '01, so there was very little that could have been said.

I am not sure your warrenty situation but I suspect that you will need a bit of "Good Will" from Cagiva to get the part replaced. Worked closely with the dealer if possible they are your first best bet in getting what you want. Make sure they make an inspection and have them provide opinion as to the nature of the failure as well as a few photos. Start early as parts may not be "immediately" available.

Failing this Cali's suggestion is spot on. Find a shop that will take a bit of care and apply a bit of craft to the repair and you can put this one in your rearview mirror.

Mine did exactly the same Brian, I've heard its pretty common, but its a pretty easy job to weld it. 3X replaced mine under warranty with one off another bike. I wound a couple of large jubilee clips round it to pull the joint together, until they replaced it.

Of course the best way to fix it, is to fit Evo headers.
