Digitrax Zephyr and MRC AD310 decoders

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

I have been runnuing Mrc Command 2000 for about 4 years and finally bought a Digitrax Zephyr to become a little more involved in DCC. I am not able to program the 8 or so engines that have the MRC AD310 decoders in. They work fine on the MRC command 2000 setup , but I cannot program on the Zephyr unit. I have read the Zephyr manual many times with regards to status editing to get the speed steps to 14 as this is all these decoders can handle. No luck! I really don't want to scrap all these decoders if I can find a way to make them work with my new Zephyr unit. I also bought one of those Broadway Limited locos and that works fine on the new system.HELP!!!!!!

Be sure that you have the Zephyr set to the correct programming mode. MRC decoders can only be programmed in PHYSical mode. Press the PROG key repeatedly until PHYS shows in the display. then the CV key will cycle through the registers that can be programmed. I think those decoders use designations R1 through R8. Refer to the decoder document to determine which register does what. Refer to pages 19 and 20 in your Zephyr manual.

Your BLI engines program in PAGE mode as do most modern decoders.
