Rebuilt ACL line south out of Haines City Fl

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

The ACL line south from Haines City to Lake Wales was removed some years ago. I was in Haines City a few weeks ago and found that the old removed wooden overpasses have been rebuilt with new cement ones and new track layed. Where is the newly rebuilt line going?

The line from Lake Wales to Frostproof is run by the Florida Midland Railroad ( http://www.pinsly.com/images/maps/map-fmrr-close.gif ).

What happened to the line south of Lake Wales? What segments are abandoned and what segments ar still used? And could somebody tell me if there are any bike trails on the ROW on the line to Everglades City/Lake Harbor?

Very interesting - Paul I hope you and others are taking photos. Does anyone have photos of the wye area before the original tracks were taken up? Especially from the overhead bridge, looking north, where the wye came together into the line going south - thanks

Haines City has purchased the right-of-way from CSX and is rebuilding the spur in hopes of revitalizing a proposed industrial park located south of the City, right near SR 544.
