Southern have any Harriman baggage cars? : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

I am an N scale modeler and have just become interested in the steam era and have been looking into passenger equipment. I have noticed in some photos a baggage car that looks like a Harriman type baggage car. It has a rounded roof with a row of evenly spaced vents on either side. Did Southern have any of these cars?

Also I have a question about color. From what I have read it sounds like the two tone Crescent Limited paint scheme didn't last long and the cars were painted standard Pullman green after that. Is that true?

Southern never owned (directly) any Harriman cars (though a few did come into their possession when they acquired the Central of Georgia, and none of these ever carried "SOUTHERN" lettering).

Southern did have some St. Louis Car Co. cars in the 500-series, but these cars are far different from Harrimans. The letterboard is deeper and the doors did not have the rounded upper corners common on Harriman cars. A photo of one of the cars, 518, can be seen at the link below (sorry, you may have to copy and paste the link into the address bar):

And, yes, the Crescent Limited's fancy paint did not last long at all, with all the cars eventually being repainted into Pullman green.

That's it! Thanks Jerry. Now if only I could find one in N scale. I've got all the Rivarossi Pullman heavyweights, but these seemed to pretty common as well judging from the pictures in the few books I've read.

Buy the way Jerry, do you post on the Atlas Model Railroad forum? Your name sounds familiar.
