water tank at Jones and Washingtongreenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread |
Was there a large water tank on the corner of Jones and Washington prior to the construction of the big apartment building now on the site? When I was a small child I lived across the street in the mid-1950's and have a recollection which I have not been able to substantiate.

There still is a water tank at the top of Jones Street between Sacramento and Clay. It is set back from the street and looks like a small house. This is part of The City's high pressure water system used for the large fire hydrants. The ones with the red and blue caps.
