Valves Clearances? from the shop manual

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

The owner manual tell 0.15 to 0.20mm clearance. But I remenber reading different values on the shop manual. Does anyone know those values from the shop manual?

Thanks O

I posted this a month or so ago on 'mvagustaf4'; just checked the engine overhaul manual and the specs. are given as Intake=0.15 mm plus or minus .020 mm and Exhaust=0.20 mm plus or minus .025 mm. If you multiply your Metric dimensions by 0.03937 you will have "Inch" for us Metric-challenged people. If you do the math I believe that you will see that your "range" is way off as the difference between 0.29 and 0.20 is 0.09 mm (0.0035") which is one heck of a lot more than the factory specs. of plus or minus 0.025 mm (0.00098" or very very close to ONE Thousanth of an inch).

Here's another post regarding clearnances for the 750 from the shop manual;

posted 10-04-04 03:36 PM Yesterday I decided to check the valve clearance after 2000 miles. I discovered a print error in the owner's manual and also the factory manual. Both manuals have the tolerance at + or - 0.25 mm (intake) and + or - 0.3 mm (exhaust). It should be .025 mm and .03 mm. But, even this tolerance range does seem on the "high" side. For us Metric- challenged people it means the intake clearance can be anywhere from 0.005" to 0.007" and the exhaust clearance can be from 0.0066" to 0.009" This sure seems like one heck of a lot of tolerance range, but at least my valves were within specs. Also, I was glad to see that there was no flaking on the lobes

The tolererance range doesn't seem too wide to me- a piece of papaer is .003" thick -trying to adjust any tighter than that would be challenging IMHO
