Sectional cross country qualifying race, Saturday, Oct. 30

The girls cross country team celebrated homecoming at the Friday night football game until the end of half-time. They then quickly grouped to eat dinner and drive to Albany, GA to spend the night. We arrived at 11:45 PM with a fog rolling in and unseasonably warm temperatures. We awoke at 7:00 am to find a very dense fog, so thick we had trouble seeing the school, where the meet was to be held, from the street. The course resembled a labyrinth, weaving through a pecan grove. It was very beautiful, completely quiet with few spectators, and thoroughly confusing to the runners. Nine teams started the race, with eight of them advancing to the state meet. The girls ran hard even though they knew they would not be eliminated. They all ran their fastest times of the year and finished 3rd overall in the race. We are now OFFICIALLY qualified for the state meet next week in Carrollton. The team actually averaged a faster time than the team that ran at the region meet last week, though we did not have four of the top seven team members in Albany. Watch out AA girls teams, Grady is out to get you.
