Searching for info on Allen A. Carter, born abt. 1822, probably in N.C. Census show him living in Harris District #13, Stanly Co, N.C. in 1860. Marrried Armena/Ammena/Amanda ?. She was born abt. 1818. They had the following choldren: Alice A., born abt. 1840, Frances R., born abt. 1841 or 1843, Mary P., born abt. 1845, John W., born abt. 1847, Henry Augustus, born abt. 1849, James Martin, born abt. 1852, George F., born abt. 1855. Allen was drinking when he got into a fight with a friend. He then fled with some of his family to Yell County, Arkansas. He was arrested twelve years later and taken back to N.C. to prison. Would like to know what prison he was in and when and where he died and where he is buried, and if he still has any family living in N.C.

Only one of Allen Carter's children married in Stanly Co. NC. That was Alice Ann (Aisa Ann) to William STEWART on 29 Dec 1864 Book I page 47. All four of his sons married in Yell County, Arkansas. John W. CARTER married Rebecca A. Thomas on 31 Jul 1870 Book A page 224. Henry Augustus CARTER married 1st to Melissa C. McFarland on 20 Aug 1868 Book A page 163 and 2nd to Leannah McFarland on 31 May 1875 Book B page 20; James Martin CARTER to Mary E. Garrison on 07 Oct 1970 Book A page 227 and Jarrett F. CARTER to Malinda Lokey on 12 Feb 1872 Book A page 286. I haven't been able to find this family after 1875. Not sure where they went. Allen Carter remarried after he moved to Yell County, Arkansas to Louisa C. GRIFFIN on 15 May 1870 Book A page 221. I have several newspaper accounts concerning him both from NC and from AR. Family is in 1870 Yell Co. AR census Magazine Tonwship, Dardanelle Post Office.
