Risks of hip replacement surgery in lupus patients

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

I have lupus and am undergoing hip replacement surgery. Are there any special risks or complications because of my disease? Also, I have been told by friends that I am more at risk of having a foot drop after surgery because I have lupus. Is that true?

Unless you have neuropathy from your lupus, you should not have any problems. Muscles and tendons may be inflammed from lupus but if your disease is under control you should be fine. I would be diligent about physical therapy before and after your hip replacement. Diana, RN and lupus patient
