Briggs performance parts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I just put a 16HP Briggs V-Twin on my Coyote offroad go-kart, does anyone know if there are any performance parts available for this engine? With 7.2:1 gearing using a Comet 40 series converter, and 22" knobbies, it will pick up the front tires about 6" on pavement! Tops about 33-35 MPH.

sounds like you just need to adjust the governor and try a different gear ratio

Hi there, About the gearing, When I got this go-kart it had an 8 hp Tecumseh with 6:1 gearing, 10 tooth upper and 60 lower, I changed the lower sprocket to 72 tooth because it would strain offroad and really heat the belt. The 8 horse did great with this gearing but the carb. would flood when crossing rough terrain (typical tecumseh). I had an 11HP Honda on it for the longest, and finally ended up with the 16 V-twin Briggs. Considering this has about one inch wheel travel front and none on the rear, I think it's fast enough. (Maybe) Don

I don't believe there are any "performance parts" for 16hp briggs, I mainly deal with 5hp briggs. What are you wanting the performance parts.

I was looking for stuff like a performance exhaust, carburetor, cam shaft etc. Looking to improve flow. Anyone know the RPM limits of the V-Twin Briggs? Don
