How to convert a MESECAM tape to MPEG-2 ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello everybody,

I have loads of MESECAM videotapes and I want to convert them to MPEG-2 format. I have used the Pinancle Studio 8 (mainly), also the Adobe Premiere 6.5 (very briefly) & the WinDVD Creator II.

I have converted PAL material to MPEG-2, also played with the settings but when it comes to NTSC to MPEG-2 conversion I either get veeery poor color or get a solid b/w picture without sound ?

Would any codecs help me by supporting the converting program and, if so, then where can I download them from ?

I would appreciate any replies.

Are you trying to convert MESECAM video using NTSC settings? The two systems are very different from each other. They handle color differently, have different numbers of resolution lines and different frame/field rates.

If you are trying to capture NTSC video and play it back, you'll need to make sure your capture and playback devices are capable of handling said signal. If you're trying to capture MESECAM video using NTSC settings, this won't work at all. You'll need a capture device capable of such a format.

Clarify what you are trying to do and we will work from there.

I have a tape in MESECAM and want to make an MPEG-2 clip with PAL settings, not NTSC settings. Afterwards, I may convert the MPEG-2 to VOB, again PAL settings. Any ideas ?

Thanks for the assistance.
