Apply for TAFE Dip of Remedial Massage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : AMTNSW : One Thread

Hi Actually I would like to apply for the Diploma course of Remedial Massage in TAFE (Meadowbank). And I just go through the handbook saying that they need HSC year 12 academic background. But does anyone know that is it important to have chemistry background or human biology ? If so, I am in disadvantage of this point. As I am 3 rd year accounting student in MQ, I dont have any background related to this course. So I just wonder I could succeed to make an application. Actually, after i got sick this year (cancer), I deferred all my studies and found that I want a change. I wanna to work in natural therapy or massage therapy.. something like that. But found that there is so expensive to study in private college of those studies. So I want to take TAFE as my step stone towards the future path (natural therapy). But is it difficult to get into ? Thanks guys

Hi May, Hopefully I may be able to assist you in your search to become a Remedial Massage Therapist. I have a diploma of Health Science (Massage Therapy) from Meadowbank Tafe. There is a new course out now with more or less of the same modules covered as the Dip Health Science. Best bet is to go into the Information department and check out the courses running and what the requirements are. The Dip of Health Science required a year 12 HSC or some kind of Science background. I didn't have either, so I found there was a bridging course called 'Prepratory studies in Massage' it runs for 9 weeks and it got me in to do my diploma. This was 4 years ago now so I'm not sure if they still run it, but it's worth checking it out. Don't give on a dream it can and will happen if you want it to. The Diploma of Health Science went for 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time, and it is a very hard and intense course. Any more questions please email me, I'll be happy to help. Regards Jo
