Photos of ACL Perry Cutoff

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Wanted (for upcoming article in Lines South)- photos and information showing operations on the ACL Perry Cutoff line (Thomasville, Ga., -Dunnellon, Fla. via Monticello, Perry, Cross City and Chiefland, Fla.). Especially need diesel action scenes, passenger trains, the "Blue Goose," log trains, and trains from the SCL years through abandonment.

Also, does anyone know the date of the Florida West Coast abandonment between Trenton and Shamrock (via Wilcox and Cross City)?

Thanks, Russell Tedder

The Florida West Coast RR began operation in December 1987 over 45 miles of ex-CSX(nee-ACL) lines, Newberry-Wilcox-Shamrock and Wilcox-Chiefton. In 1992 the Wilcox-Chiefton segment was abandoned and in 1996 the Shamrock line was cutback to Cross City. By 1998 the FWC was a 14 mile line from Newberry to Trenton. In February 2004, the FWC applied to the Surface Transportation Board to abandon the remainder of the line. A final decision was to have been issued in June. Interestingly, as of August 3rd, '04, the FWC still has an Internet web page offering to run chartered passenger trains on their line.
