Oil Leak or more serious?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

Just taken my 4 week-old F4 1000 out for the third time this week - pulled up at a junction - lots of oil-burn type smoke from the underside of the motor - thought it was going to catch fire!! Has anyone else experienced this on the the 750? It's having first service this week, but I'd love to know if anyone else has experienced oil leaks/burning smell. I'll update everyone when I've given the dealer a whole heap of s**t!!!

I have new Brutale with only 300 klms on it. When I pulled up in the garage at home and turned it off there was lots of smoke coming out of one of the cans. Like a smoking gun it kept rolling out for a while after I turned it off.

The dealer said it was just the anti rust protectant they spray over everything burning off.

Now have 800 klms up and it has stopped so I hope thats all the problems is for you too.

I had that a little bit with my 1000 the first rides. It seams that MV used a lot of grease, or something like that, for assembling. Now, a few weeks later, its no problem. But if your not confident about the smoke, just check it out by removing the fairing. Thats very easy to do! Good luck!!

Rich,

It could be the oil filter as they have been known to come loose & drop oil on to the exhaust & rear tyre if you are un lucky. It was mainly the earlier ones that had this problem as there is a modification now but you never know !

Yo! The guys are right, that the filter tend to come loose sometimes. It is best to keep it tight by putting some oil on the rubber "O-ring" and use a wrench to tighten it just right. You can also use a metal tie-wire to lock it. Hope this helps.
