Is my doctor doing the best thing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

I broke my fib about 9 years ago. I have been going to doctors for the past 3 or so years for knee pain. The last doctor I went to see took x-rays of my knee and found that my fib had healed improperly. The bone is bowed into my leg far enough to be behind my chin bone! Anyways, this is causing a few problems with my knee including arthritis. My doc is going to cut the fib completely from my knee. He said that the alternative is to fuse the joint but the recovery time is much longer. The surgery is in two weeks and I am a little nervous. Is he doing the right thing?

Kristina,

Please go and get a second opinion before you let somebody do something that you're not sure of. Even if you are sure get a second opinion. It NEVER hurts and you never know when it will save you a lot of time and misery. Remember this. Stand up for yourself because if you don't no one else will.

Sincerely,
