F 7 Horn type/configuration

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

Does any one know the type and chime configuration of the air horns used SOuthern's F 7 units from the 1960's on 'til retired. The Southern Modelers website has a good list of horns on Southern's locomotives, but the freight F units aren't covered. TIA

Mike,

Southern's first F-7s, 4207-4245 and 6114-6120, had the two standard horns. All others, 4246-4269, 6714-6719, were ordered with Nathan M-5s, with all bells pointed forward. This according to Southern orders to EMD. Sometime later all F-7s had Nathan M-5s, with the top left horn and bottom right horn faced backward (looking at the front end of the locomotive).
