Traction Calculations

Ian,

I am presuming that you are from the UK because you use the word 'lift' rather than 'elevator'. With this in mind you should consult Annex M of EN81-1 which will give you all the information you need regarding traction calculations. There is, however, an error in Annex M, and quite an important one. Details about the error can be found by following this link:

http://www.liftdirectory.com/technical/tech2000spring1.html

Annex M is only a recommendation however and many companies probably do things slighty differently (use differing values etc.) and so it should be treated as a guide only.

If you want a copy of Annex M then contact me directly.

Regards, Lee.
