Time off

Is this a wrongful termination? I left for an interview on my lunch break; knowing that the interview would take longer, my General Manager allowed me to take the extra time off for the interview. While I was gone, the owner found out that I was at an interview. When I returned, the GM said, "Jeff (the owner) found out that you went to an interview, he was pissed, and I'm going to have to let you go." The GM failed to let the owner know that it was on my time-off.

I called the owner and told him that I was granted the time off and that he had no grounds to let me go for that reason. The owner then changed his reason to "budgeting" because now he has to pay extra in taxes (out of his 2 businesses, I was the only one on payroll because I demanded to be).
