How do I access the menu of a vcd from cd rom???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have burned vcd's and svcd's with the interactive menu's, I want to distribute my business on cd so people can use the menu when they access the cd drive and then access several video files, but when I go to my cd rom drive after a succesfull burn, all I get are 5 folders with assorted data. How can I get the menu to activate from clicking on my cd rom drive? I thought by making the menu's it would be automatic.

The menu appears when I access the drive from Nero Showtime but not from windows media player which I guess most people use.

Stumped and frustrated. :(

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Video CD is a format, much like DVD video. You'll need to give your clients a video player that has DVD/VCD capabilities. If I remember right, Media Player 9, latest update can play VCD/DVD discs directly. Media Player Classic is another good choice, and works better than WMP.

I'm not sure you can. There are no real guarantees with VCD and especially SVCD. Many standalone DVD players and PCs will not play SVCD. The DVD players sometimes don't understand the format and PCs without DVD playing software probably won't be able to play it because they won't have the MPEG-2 codec the video needs. Your best bet for compatibility is VCD, but please note that some older DVD players won't play CD-R media at all, assuming you are burning these yourself.

You might be better off to make a DVD instead of a VCD/SVCD. You will have fewer compatibility problems. You could also look for a commercial DVD pressing plant and have them make the DVDs for you. I don't know of any commercial pressing plants nor do I know the cost, but it can be done. A web search might be useful.

I'm a bit confused now. Is there no way I can put a small software vcd menu reading program on the disc for people to load into their pc's to view the interactive menu?

Is there any way I can do it? I'd rather make a dvd but I'll be sending the cd off to offices who no doubt have pc's but probably don't have dvd roms or players.

try burning your vcd using Roxio VideoPack 5 or WinOnCD which has a built in autoloader that help to autoplay the VCD with menu.
