Air Filter Maintenance : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

Does anyone with a MV Workshop manual know what the recommneded maintenance for the air filter is? I'm looking for frequency of cleaning and what air filter oil to use, if any.

The manual says inspect/replace at 3800,7500,11200,14900 miles. I believe it is a replacement item but I have not opened mine up yet to see if it can be cleaned.

A new airfilter is not so expensive and easy to replace. I would recommend to change it at every service (6000 km). In my opinion its a very important part!

Thanks guys, the filter is a re-uasble foam filter so it can be washed and refitted. I really wanted to know if the manual said anything about oiling it or not, and if so what oil.

The manual says check/replace every 6000 kilometers.

The filter is manufactured by Twin Air, so I guess their oil would be the logical choice. It's not that expensive though, so I've just been replacing it.

hi, i wash mine every year and re-oil using silkolene oil (make sure the oil you use is for foam filters) happy riding mark

Warning!! If you do not use a filter oil you will cause premature wear too your engine, The filter needs oil in it! the oil attracts all the fine dirt particles that would other wise pass through into the combustion chamber. The trick to oiling the filter is ( I use BELRAY FOAM FILTER OIL) it is a dark blue colour. Too clean the filter I use kerosene, 1/2 a litre(as it is oil based not petroleum) put into a bucket with the filter let it soak the kero in then sqeeze the filter (do not twist as this can tear the foam)do this several times utill you can see that most off the oil is in the bucket. Then empty bucket and wipe clean with a cloth. i then put laundry detergent in the bucket with boiling hot water do the same cleaning process again as with kero. Then rinsin only water to remove all the soap and squeeze exces water out to the hot water cupboard to dry takes a day. to oil put filter in a pastic bag pour some filter oil onto the filter holding the outside of the bag massage inthe oil slowly keep adding oil untill you have a even film of oil right through the filter ( you don't want too use too much oil as your bike won't breath properly) good luck if you have any queries give me an e- mail. happy hooning Bret.
