How do I tell if an mpg is vcd ready?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a DVD player that will play NTSC VCD files from CD or DVD disks. I've been converting all of the files from various sources and burning the disks myself. Converting is, of course, a long slow process and I don't want to waste time on files that might be already set up. The trouble is I don't have any software that will tell me if an mpg is VCD ready or not.

How can I tell if an mpg file is a NTSC VCD file (on my computer)?

Thanks in advance, Steve

The only way I know to tell is to use the Bit Rate Viewer from http://www.tecoltd.com. You should be able to get the info you need from the free version. Use the Bit Rate Viewer to open your MPEG file and read the output. If it says 29.97 frames per second and 352x240 resolution, you have NTSC VCD.

There is an another way.

Open Nero. Select Create Video CD. Drag the MPG or DAT file into the Left Window. It will analyse the file and say whether it is VCD Complaint or not. The Entire process will take Max 2 Minutes in Pentium III machine for a movie length of 80 Minutes. Don't burn.
