greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

Anyone know how or got any ideas on taking a beach cruiser bike frame, or any other frame, and put a 3.5 hp b&s engine on it?I know it'll work,or should i just put a chain saw engine on it. should i use a chain or weld to rims together and use a fanbelt and pulley? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You will need a rear sprocket from a dirt bike. Take it and the rear wheel from your bike to a machine shop and have it welded to the sprocket on the wheel. Build a mounting plate on the bike for the engine. You will have to modify the braces on the bike to make room for the engine. The mounting plate will have a shaft with 3 in. sprockets on each side to alow the transfer of power from the left side (engine with centrifugal clutch),to the right side of the bike in order to drive the sproket on the rear wheel. Another way would be to weld the drum on the rear wheel and reverse it so that the sproket (dirt bike one) would be on the left side, the same as the engine. You will have to off set the engine to the right a little in order to line up the sprokets. Use hand brakes. Make sure your medical insurance is paid up. Give it the gas and hang on. Good luck.
