Side stand breakage issuegreenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread |
Does anyone know if the side stand on a '03 F4S is still prone to breaking. The side stand lays forward in a very steep angle. Did the early ones break at the pivot point or further down the shaft? I am thinking of modifying the stops to keep it from leaning forward so much. Thanks for your input.

The stand on my old 2000 model had the side stand actually snapped in half when I parked it on an incline. First, I noticed it strench very far foward. I quickly straightened the bike and drove it to a level surface to see what happen. Once I got off the bike, the stand just broken in two (not at the joint). So far, I haven't had that problem with my 2002 model.

Many thanks for your reply. I have noticed that not only does the side stand lean forward a lot, but also it lets the bike lean over too far putting strain on the stand. If I put a 3/4" thick spacer under the stand, the "lean over" angle seems just about right. Somehow I'll fix it even if it's not broken. Once again, thanks for your reply. Kenny Nash

There realy should be no problem with the sidestand on an 03 bike. There seems to have been a batch of fragile sidestands fitted to some Y2K bikes - there has been no official recall for this but I believe they have generally been replaced under warranty.
The EV03 bike has a slightly different design to it's stand - same as SENNA ones. No reports of these breaking.
