dislocation after hip replacement

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

I had a hip replacement about 3 years ago. About 2 weeks ago my hip and down leg to foot starting hurting. Then about 5 days ago it hurts so bad it's unbareable. I stand for about 5 min. and I can't hardly make it to sit down. The pain on a scale 1 10 is high 10. What do they do when it is dislocated.??????

When a hip dislocates, the ball slips out of the socket, the leg is shortened and unstable, and the patient either falls or is unable to bear weight. Any pain is experienced in the hip itself and not down the leg to the foot. Pain down the leg into the foot is generally a sign of a ruptured lumbar disk, but you should see your doctor to establish a proper diagnosis.
