Water temperature

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

I just got a 2000 F4 and I was wondering what is the normal coolant temperature when the bike is not in motion. On my first ride it never climbed above 92 celcius. On the last ride it climbed to 100 celcius. The outside temperature was hotter the first time I took it out. I guess the first thing to check is that the cooling fans are coming on. In motion the bike seems to stay between 70 - 75 celcius. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

You might check that the coolant is up to the MIN mark on the reservoir

These bikes are also prone to having problems with the thermostat housing leaking. This causes air to be sucked into the the system. As a result the temp can fluctuate, which is how it sounds. If the housing has been leaking, there will be water staining on the lower left part of the engine crankcase. Being a 4 year old bike, you might consider changing the thermostat as well. Also using some water wetter in your coolant can help stabalize the temp.

The water level is fine. The bike only has 900 miles on it and the coolant has been changed. What temperature levels do you guys experience when the bike is sitting at a stop light for an extended period of time? Thanks

When sitting in traffic in Texas heat the bike normally settles around 95C once the fans come on. Up to 101C - 102C before the fans and during soak.

Normal riding fluctuates widely depending on ambient temp.

I have an early 2001 (single radiator) model & the temperature does fluctuate quite a lot even here in the UK. Generally under normal riding temperature is about 70ish but if I stop @ traffic lights for any length of time it can go way up in to the 90's.

I have a 2003 model F4. I am here in South Africa and the temp gets up to about 36C 38C on hot days. On those days the bike at stand still goes up to 109C to 110C. As soon as you start riding it comes down to 70C to 80C depending on speed. These bike do run hot, just make sure that the temp reading on the bike does not begin to flash!
