Kato N Scale #6 turnouts...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

Hi, Great site by the way...

My son and I are building an 8 x 10 foot n scale layout using Kato Unitrack. The layout is going to be DCC so were trying to get the track and wiring correct before we move on the next phase.

We have the track laid but I read something on your site the concerned me about the Kato N-Scale #6 turnout (I have 9 of them in the layout). You mentioned on your site the N- scale #6 turnouts are not DCC friendly. If I make the modifications you mentioned, will the switch be dcc friendly

No, the mods will not make it DCC friendly. But as stated in the website, the gap between the point & stock rails is very large. Any that will stay on the track should not give you any trouble.

I was just looking thru your website......saw the question regarding the DCC non-friendly Kato switches, #6 power routing........ Since I am new to the DCC setup myself (years of conventional running)......maybe I'm doing something wrong BUT....I have NO gaps and NO problems. I am not a "techno" so I couldn't tell you why, just that everything is running fine......except for when I don't switch direction properly and then system shorts, stops, shuts down .....I then correct my mistake and back to running fine again. But then, everyone, including the designers say this shouldn't be...but for me it works. Arty Kloepfer (HdGlide74@aol.com or Hdcheroke@aol.com) Feb.13,2004
