Tour of Mount Blanc

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

We are very keen to do the TMB. However we are keen summertime hillwakers in Britain and not keen on exposed or dangerous routes. Is there a time of year to complete the TMB for individuals such as ourselves or is it dangerous at all times of year.

The TMB has little objective danger. However, some segment (like the "Balcony" on Val Veny or the Italy/Switzerland crossing on Val Ferret can become awkward in bad weather.

The biggest difficulty with TMB is that it's relatively strenous. It's not uncommon to see people in bad shape literally crawling down the trail after just a couple of days. so, be sure to be fit enough to walk strenously for ten days before you try

The best time of the year to do it is the last week of June, or the first of September.
