Hi me and my friends just got a lawn mower has hardly been used and we want to build a go kart but dont how to build one. so we were wondering if any body could help.it would greatly appreciated.

Does it have a horizontal shaft if you dont know what a horizontal shaft is its the thing that turns that comes out of the engine and it should be coming out of the side like this - , if it is a self drive mower with a verticle shaft (shaft comes out the bottom of the engine) then you can use the gear box of the mower or better get a gear box out of a ride on mower. If you want to make a crude go cart with a verticle shaft engine you can twist a belt from the engine to the rear axle, and make a clutch with a belt tensioning device otherwise you would have to start it on blocks and it would be hard to stop.

Does it have a verticul shaft?? You would know because it comes out the botteom. To make a good go cart, you want to have horizontal eengine. Now it is possible to make a go cart out of a verticul engine but its harder and really not supposed to do this because its not made for that. Now the way i was told is to use a pully system by just hooking bets up but i wouldent do that because it could slip then you would have no fun at all.

Got a lawn mower? Just change the pulley on the engine to the largest one possible, and the pulley on the gear box to the smallest one possible. Keep the gearbox greased well. My lawnmower without the cutting deck did at least 20mph! Lawndude
