Speedo error with different sprocket sizes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

My 02 came with a 43T rear sprocket that puts the speedo (and hence odometer) out by about 12-15%.

I have looked azt going back to the 40T rear but the cost is outrageous here in AUS.

The other option was a speedo corrector. Has anyone tried this? If so what was the result? Does the MV have a 2 or three wire speedo (the manufactures seem to want to know this to supply the right unit.

Thanks Darryn

I was planning on keeping my stock 40t sprocket(less than 500 miles),but if you are interested I will take $100 for it. The speed sensor is a three wire system. I have a yellow box calibrator installed but I have yet to get to ride my bike to calibrate it. Curt

Hi Darryn, the F4 comes with 3 wires to the speedo. -Violet/white wiring on bike is switched power with key ON. -Brown wiring is the signal pulse from sensor up to gauge cluster. -Blue wiring is battery negative.

I'll email you the .doc I wrote up on a speedo correction device. It's titled "Yellow Box Install" and is a MS word .doc of about 700KB.

I believe that should be the document Roland is referencing.

cuervo must be huffing R-1 exhaust if he thinks anyone who thought through buying a F4 would go back to a cheap litre-bike.I would suggest buying the R-1/GSXR-1000/ZX-10R/CBR1000RR before an F4 if your power hungry, and haven't been there already. Good luck converting the experienced!

Cuervo, Based on the topic I'm assuming your speedo doesn't work...?

An R1 just doesn't leave the same impression on someone as say an uncorked F4 (let alone a xr750 w. lights & brakes) as you blow by them on the outside of any given corner as if they are standing still.... So many squids & so little time
