Who was the founder of psychoanalytic thought?
-- Andres Busso (chezandres@msn.com), January 22, 2004
Sigmund Freud.
-- Christopher Green (christo@yorku.ca), January 22, 2004.
As C. Green pointed out, Freud is the straightforward answer. Nevertheless, the ideas behind the emergence of psychoanalysis can be traced back to ancient times. A review of that, altough highly critical, can be found in Webster's book "Why Freud was wrong". An interesting account of the relations between XIX century neurology and psychoanalysis can be found in: Keegan E. (2003). Flechsig and Freud: Late 19th-Century Neurology and the Emergence of Psychoanalysis. History of Psychology, Februray, Vol. 6, No.1.
