Early hip, & can it still appear in joints now clear

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

My 25 year old daughter has been diagnosed with AVN in both knees, possibly stage 2 or 3. She is on crutches, cannot put weight on her right knee due to pain, but uses her left, although it is hurting some. The doctor said there is a very small area in her right hip suggestive of AVN. Left hip seems normal. I read on one website that if you wait, early AVN in one hip could regenerate spontaneously. Another site recommends early surgical intervention. We are confused. The doctors she has been to also do not agree on which approach to take.

Also, since she has not been on prednisone for 3 years now, do we still need to be wary of it appearing in the left hip also, or are we safe at this point as far as the left hip is concerned? Is there anything she can do to be sure it does not appear in additional joints?
