History of 700 Columbus Ave.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I've heard that Frank Sinatra used to visit the business located at 700 Columbus ave when he was in town in the 50's and 60s. I'm trying to find out the name of the business then and who owned it. Currently it's La Piazza Cafe. In the 70's up until recently it was Cafferata Ravioli Factory.

The best way to find previous occupants of an address is to consult the Reverse Address directories. These directories are found on the fifth floor of the Main Library and begin around 1953. The current directories are published by Haines. The early ones by Polk.

Good luck in your research.

Hello Jake

I knew the owner of the restaurant "Cafferata Ravioli Factory" and used to work for him. Not at the Cafferata, but at his other business.

I was a native of North Beach during the 60's to the 90's.

Steve

I am the grandson of the late Frank Cafferata (owner of Roma Macaroni). My Grandfather started working in the factory in 1928 and became the owner in the 1950's I believe. Now I'm refering to the factory that was on top of telegraph hill.
