Hi there, I was just wondering whether it's possible or not to convert an MPEGAV/DAT file to just a music file(Mp3, wav, etc). Cuz I have a Music VCD that contains video clips and songs all together, but I can't play it in my regular CD player cuz it's not a music file. Thanks fpr the info!!

I believe you can:

1) Copy the .DAT file into the hard drive. 2) Change it's extension as .MPG 3) Open it with GoldWave, or perhaps CoolEdit. 4) Save it as .WAV -- it only saves the audio part.

You may try to save it as .MP3, or you may even try to rename it first as .MP3 and see if you can burn it directly as audio.

The first reply won't work. Here's what you need to do. Find a copy of VCDgear (do a web search) and use it to convert your DAT file to MPG. Use something like TMPGenc (http://www.tmpgenc.net) to demux the MPG file into separate audio and video files. The audio file will be in MPEG-1 layer II audio format. The program BeSweetGUI (http://www.doom9.net - in the Downloads section) can convert MPEG audio (it calls it MPA) to WAV format, which is suitable for burning to CD audio. You will need some kind of audio editor if you want to split the WAV file into separate tracks.

Virtual Dub (www.virtualdub.org) is a great freeware program that can strip off the audio of a video file.

Change the .dat file to .mpg Open with Virtual Dub Save off the audio as a .wav file

i tried all the ways listed on the top, but none worked..... i have the same problem too... is there any other way that you can suggest?
