What a woman! :-D

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- A 105-pound woman was crowned Fruitcake Champion after swallowing nearly five pounds of the treat in 10 minutes, beating her closest rival -- a man almost four times her weight -- by a single bite.

"My jaw is very tired right now," Sonya Thomas said Tuesday after out-eating 405-pound Eric Booker of Long Island by one-eighth of an ounce.

The contest, believed to be a first, was sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and kicked off Buffalo's New Year's festivities.

Despite her size, Thomas, 36, is no lightweight on the professional eating circuit.

She's eaten 43 tacos in 11 minutes to claim victory in the World Champion Chicken Taco Eating Contest. She also holds the female world record for eating 24 hot dogs in 12 minutes and for eating 68 hard-boiled eggs in 8 minutes.

Booker, of Long Island, who holds title to pea-eating and corned beef hash-eating contests, said there were no hard feelings after his close second.

"There is no agony of defeat in this sport," he said.

LOL, Gayla. She sounds like FRL material. Maybe we should send her an invitation to join us ;-)

It wasn't Gayla?

(Puzzled look.)

I thought she won....

Her jaw was tired!!! What about her stomach? Yuk, it makes me feel sick just thinking about it.

The only way she could accomplish five pounds of food at all is because the sheer density of fruitcake packs weight into a smaller cubic space.

Yuck.

Five pounds of chocolate sounds much more appetizing, Helen! Did you really????

Robert, there's a link to my picture around here somewhere. You KNOW I don't weigh 105 pounds! (At 5'8" I would be nothing but bones!)

Do you think some people have a larger stomach capacity than others? I can't even eat a pound of chocolate at a time. (YES, I've tried!) :-D

But Gayla, you must weigh 105 pounds in order to weigh more than that - you certainly oughtn't to weigh less than 105 pounds and if you weigh 106 pounds or more, then you have to weigh 105 pounds first, with the additional pounds depending on how much weight you're carrying on the towel rack, or the bathroom sink or... I know I weigh 105 pounds, but getting the needle to stop there can sometimes be a problem ;-)

Oh, and those 5 pounds of chocolate only count as weight if they don't have the effect of making you avoid chocolate for at least 4 months... otherwise they're calorie free, right? LOL

Butt What's 105 in Metric?

-- Robert & Jean (Robert&Jean@watching@gaylaeating.fruitcake), January 04, 2004.

Looks like she added 5% to her body weight in only ten minutes. That's a real gift. AT that rate she could double her size in less than two hours.

Are you sure she's not really a bacterium?

LOL! Gene :-D And nice to see you again, too. Happy New Year!
