Why isn't my DVD player reading my CD-RW?

My DVD player (GO.Video DVR4200) is supposed to be able to read CD-Rs and CD-RW but it's supposedly not able to read VCDs. I burned videos on a CD-RW but it says disc error. Won't it play it just because it can't play VCDs period? Even when it's CD-RW compatible?

If your DVD player doesn't support VCD, it doesn't matter what you burn them to. Burning to CD-RW was a trick that worked on a few Sony DVD players that did support VCD, they just didn't support burnable CD media, but it was discovered that CD-RW discs would usually work on them. If your DVD player doesn't support VCD, it's game over. Time to buy another DVD player, unfortunately :-( CD-R/RW support has nothing to do with VCD support and vice versa. You can support one without supporting the other, support both, or support neither.

how about if my dvd player does support VCD (as well as CDs and CD- RWs)? I ran into the same problem, where i couldn't play mpeg music videos that i had burned on a CD-R.
