Remembrance Day

Today, in Canada, it is Remembrance Day. This is the day when we pause to remember all those who have given their lives (and are giving their lives) for our country and our freedom. We stand in cold, blustery weather and watch through teary eyes as wreaths are layed at the tomb of the unknown soldier, as our dead soldiers are honoured with a 21 gun salute and as the airforce does a fly by in the "Missing Man" formation. We listen to a teen in tears in memory of her recently dead grandfather who was one of our veterans to return from world war 2 and we thank those who gave their lives, who gave their youth and those who are still giving that we may live in peace, freedom and prosperity.

And here, in the United States, it is Veteran's Day, where we pause to see much the same thing and remember the most important thing: those who gave service to our country, and yes, those that still serve to protect our freedoms. On this day, I am reminded of my half- brother's father, who went down in the Pacific in 1943, with more than a tear.

One of the things that struck me today, as I read a story in the morning paper, and heard another personal perspective from a WWII vet, was how stalwart and reliable both men found their Canadian counterparts to be, in the midst of the death and destruction of war.

So on this day, I bow my head in respect for those that have so bravely defended our freedoms, be they here in spirit, or in body. And I thank my Canadians friends for their support, both past, present and future.

Thank you, to all those men and women who so proudly serve, and served, their country so they we may continue to enjoy our freedoms.

Where is Aunt Bee?

Today is another day of remembrance for us: Pearl Harbor

Here is a thread I started over at Mutter's about it.
