Escalator

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

I have over hundred westinghouse mod 100 escalator which are over 24 years. They run 24/7 and during the peak hours the traffic is heavy. Under normal condition the escalator should last about twenty years. Is there any body out that has done a study on the life of an escaltor to show the owner that their escalator have reach there life span.

Thank you

Hi There There is some hope, Kone Elevator Company can modernize your escalator and keep most of your unit. They will remove most of you existing worn out equipment and install new escalator ECO 3000 components in your existing units. Kone has a huge escalator plant in Moline Illinois and sells many differant models from light duty to heavy duty transit models. Call your local Kone office sales dept and they can help you.

Bullshit....what a load of crud....the only way is to totally rip them out and replace them...although there will be no way you get 20years out of modern escalators... If they have no problems..i.e excessive noise/or breakdowns...leave them be...a good maintainance company will be able to keep them going...I work for the major lift/escalator company and their new type (and all the other companies) recommend that the escolators do not run for any more than 12-15 hrs a day no matter what the sales guys tell you.

Hi There I had the pleasure of working on a westinghouse modular escalator that was being modernized with a new Kone 3000 parts today, the existing westinghouse escalator truss is still there and most everthing else is new. If you walk through the lobby of the building you would not even know a mod like this was going one because it has little disruption to the building. I have a question, what is the address of those 24 year old units you have because one of these mods might be just what is needed, we can start surveying the equipment. Thanks Jim
