Should filters for variable contrast B&W paper be substituted periodically?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: URL Review : One Thread

I am starting to print B&W using a Durst 707 enlarger with a color head . Some friends told me that the filters in the color head, that is Cyan, Magenta end Yellow, vary their filtering ability with time, so that they are no more reliable after some time. They advised to use an external set of filters and to buy a new set from time to time. Is it true? Can anyone give me some suggestion? Thanks. Joseph

Dichroic filters are made of glass. The filtration is the result of interference phenomena, not dyes. They don't fade.
