SF streetcar lines B,C,D,E,F and H

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

Are there any maps available (or descriptions) showing the exact routes of the old SF streetcar lines B,C,D,E,F(old line) and H. When were they torn up? Thanks for any help.

Take a look at "San Francisco's Century of Streetcars," by Fred A. Stindt, self published, 1990. The History Room, 6th floor, SF Main Library has a copy, I believe. He has a whole chapter on Muni routes with the information you seek.

Another excellent reference is Inside Muni, by Robert Perles, published by Interurban Press. The book is out of print, but copies surface from time to time in used book stores and ebay. It has a chronolgy of all the Muni lines, as well as equipment, operations, etc. The B line was discontinued in December, 1955, replaced by today's 38 Geary. Most of the other lines were discontinued in the late 40s as Muni struggled to assimilate the former Market Street Railway which had been acquired in 1944.
