Playing DVCDs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

My girlfriend is in China and she keeps buying DVCDs. She can play VCDs on her PC but the DVCDs don't want to work. Is there some software out there that can play this format?

DVCD is a bogus format the bootleggers invented. It's VCD format on 90 or 99 minute CD-Rs. All bets are off when you use 90 and 99 minute discs. Some machines play them without a problem, others refuse to play them at all. These discs violate CD-R standards, so all you can do is try to find another PC or VCD/DVD player and hope it will play them. It has nothing to do with software.
