I'm somewhat confused about the chapter title. When did the AME Church provide a gift in the form of a college to the state of South Carolina? As a private school founded by the AMEC it is highly unlikely that the deed and other property documents to this institution would be transferred to the government of South Carolina absent approval by the General Conference. Unless I have missed something recently or historically, I am aunaware of any such transfer ever occuring. QED
