Chamonix Hiking in October

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

Hi, I am interested in doing some Hiking in the alps, but I will not be in Chamonix until the middle of October. Is this still a good time to go? We are planning on going for about 4 days, so any recommendations on places to stay, and routes would be much appreciated. Even a two day ice climbing course or something similar might be fun !

Thanks in advance

Hey,

Hiking in Chamonix in mid-October has some pros and cons. Most vacationers/tourists will be gone so you'll have the place and trails to yourself. The downside is that a lot of places will be closed for the season, especially refuges (if you're planning on hiking the GR5 or do the Tour du Mont-Blanc). The weather might be inclement also that time of year. if colder temperatures don't bother you, then October is the way to go.

Have fun, man!

Jamie, don't pretend that you actually have friends to go with you on this little gay-break ! See you in the sauna "Jambo". xx
