The DVD Player Compatibility List at http://www.vcdhelp.com has reports that some versions of your player do not support CD-R. A few people reported success playing VCD burned to CD-RW discs. You could try that. There is no fix for this. It's a design issue that means that JVC did not put a 2nd laser in designed to read burnable media. The only "fix" is to buy another DVD player. Apex sells some very cheap players that support a wide range of formats. You might also want to know that if burning to CD-RW works for you, you won't be able to play SVCD. No versions of your player support it. Finally, it is possible that even burning to CD-RW won't work. It's a dirty little secret, but all versions of a particular model DVD player are NOT identical and it has been reported in the past that Toshiba removed VCD support from certain models they sold. JVC may have done this too. If your owners manual doesn't specifically say it supports VCD or CD-R media, you may be out of luck.
