90 minute CD- R's. Compatibility Problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I recently bought some Intenso 800 MB (90 Min) CD-R's for making VCD's

However, my software only recognises them as 700 Meg.

Is there any software which can recognise the full capacity on these discs?

I am using Nero with an LG DVD Player/CD writer. Pinnacle Studio 8 disc writer has the same results.

I have the same CD-R's. You need to enable overburning in the Preference options, and enable it up to about 90mins. You then need to first burn an image by setting the Device to virtual device rather than the CD-drive. Once you have created the image you need to then burn that image onto the disk, at this stage it will prompt you as to whether you want to overburn to which you say yes. Cheers Darren

This is normal. The reason is that CD specs do not allow for any CD-R lengths above 80 minutes. As the reply suggested, just tell Nero to overburn to 90 minutes length and you'll be fine. It is not necessary to make an image first as the response suggested, although you can do that if you want to. I would recommend that you not exceed 90 minutes on your burns. 74 and 80 minute CD-Rs have at least 1 and a half minutes of lead in on the disc that you can also burn to, but 90 and 99 minute CD-Rs do not have this. If you exceed 90 minutes on your burns, you may fail.
