I was told that My Grandmother, Lorraine Lindauer, was a former Miss San Francisco 1929?.

Supposedly attended the laying of a cornerstone that year for The Opera House? She passed away 6 years ago

Anyone know wher I can find more?

This is just a long shot but many years ago around that time I once did come across a very attractive business woman who owned a weight loss company. Believe it or not they had those around even then. But her name was not Lorraine. It was Lois Lindauer. I think but I'm not sure that she also wrote a number of books. I could see some beauty queen making a career out of some health, diet and weight loss company. Maybe it is Lorraine Lindauer or someone related to her. You never know.

Edward,

Thanks for your email.

I'd hoped that someone would be able to find a listing of past Miss San Francisco's. I live in Southern California and haven't found the least bit of info on the Internet.

I was told that my Grandmother was Miss SF in 1929. Her name was Lorraine Lindauer, Lang was the name of her first husband, my grandfather Albert Lang. I have an uncle living just above the city named Al Lang as well.

Thanks, Steve Lang

There is a complete listing of former Miss San Francisco's at www.MissSanFrancisco.org

To my knowledge and through research, this is the only list available of former Miss San Francisco's that participated in the Miss California & Miss America Pageants.

There could have possibly been numerous Miss San Francisco's prior to our records that were just perhaps not affiliated with Miss America. Our list was compiled from old Miss California program books.

If your mother or grandmother was a former back in the '20's, it most likely was not a part of the Miss America Pageant. However, you can check with the historian at Miss America to see if any Miss San Francisco's competed directly at Miss America as Miss San Francisco, as in the early beginnings of Miss America, many major cities sent representatives rather than state titleholders and there were Miss San Francisco's in the '20's that competed at Miss America. The historian's name is Ric Ferentz and his email is ric@missamerica.org

Hope this helps.

Violet Regal was Miss San Francisco 1923, Eleanor Twohig 1926, there definitely was one in 1925 (name unknown) - so there probably was a Miss San Francisco 1924 in the Miss America Pageant. Most Miss America contestants in the 20's were sponsored by city newspapers, my suggestion is to do a microfiche search through August and September 1924 San Francisco newpapers. You will probably find it there. I live in Miami and was able to find all the Miss Miami's names from 1921 through now from newspaper articles. Good luck!!!
