where to voulunteer doula?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Doula.Com General Discussion : One Thread

I love this forum! thank you sooo much for your advice... I am a beginning Doula who has witnessed only one birth (besides my own birth). I am looking for someone or some organization who needs Doulas with little experience to help at births. I am trying to discover some place to witness a few births at to have more training that way. Do you know of anyone or organization looking for beginning or volunteer doulas? thanks so much ava

One place you might check is a women's crisis center/shelter, or adoption counseling center. In both places you will be likely to find women desperately in need of support during labor.

You should check out http://ca.geocities.com/volunteerdoulas you can list your information as a volunteer doula here and find others in your area who are volunteering and mentoring.

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, there are a ton of places that could use your help. There are also shadowing programs. Check out dona.org for more links.
